photo of 4 pink posters with Barbie movie monologue. light pink backgrounds with vibrant, bright pink words.

Barbie Monologue Posters

18in x 24in, Digital posters

These vibrant posters take America Ferrera's speech from the blockbuster movie Barbie (2023) and puts it into 4 decorative posters. This movie truly inspired me with her speech and it motivated me to make this series of posters. The posters are bright Barbie pink to keep with the barbie aesthetic as I played with the typography to bring out the deeper meanings of the speech.

drawing of skeleton from bust up in charcoals. epaulettes rest on the shoulders. right eye socket is blown in and left top of skull has cracking.

Skulls of War

12in x 18in, Charcoal, graphite, colored pencils

A captain of an army that died a hero. It is missing a portion of its right eye socket, and his epaulettes remain as he lies dead. This drawing was to capture the form of a skeleton with a lightsource shining onto it. It was largly inspired by the Bastille song "Skulls". I listened to it regularly while working on making this skeleton come to life.

navy blue and light blue galaxy scene. bright white moon in top right corner. glitter sprinkled around the background among bright yellow constellations.

Starry Skies

18in x 18in, Mixed media

This mixed media work was inspired by my interest in astrology and constellations. I liked experimenting with spray paint to make the background blues and using many types of glitter to be the smaller, distant stars. I also played with a wall repair putty to make the moon which I painted bright white.

purple and green paint marks on a canvas.

Dancing in Color

4ft x 6ft, Fabric paint on canvas

This project was a study on creating art with motion. I chose to be inspired by seeing videos of women painting classical ballets through paint on a canvas with their pointe shoes on. Using an old pair of pointe shoes, I dipped them in fabric paint and did various dance moves around a flat canvas to show how motion affected mark making.

poster with large blue wave looming above boat in the ocean. moana in large font. quote at bottom reads 'the ocean is a friend of mine.'

Moana Poster

11in x 17in, Digital poster

This piece was based on making a movie poster for the popular Disney film "Moana"(2016). This is one of my favorite newer Disney films because of the amazing animation and songs. The sky is light blue while the ocean wave is a gradient from a light to a dark blue to emulate how the water would get lighter when it got spread out in a wave. The boat is a recreation of Moana's boat in the film using a variety of browns to give dimension in a 2d space.

art of pink bar of soap with watercolor bubbles surrounding it

Soap

12in x 12in, Mixed media

This piece was a study on making an album cover. I chose to make an album cover for Melanie Martinez's Soap. This song speaks to me because it's about being scared to speak out or resigning yourself to be silent. Just like mothers who wash their childs mouth out after saying naughty words, you wash your words out of your mouth. I made this by using a neon pink gel crayon to mimic a real bar of soaps shine. I then used various colors of watercolor to make semi-transparent bubbles to give them dimension.
